  1. This story is very powerful and so immediate in terms of world issues. It is also a page turner, and throughout, one hopes that the heroines, who suffer so much, will live happily ever after. The book does have a very satisfying ending--but I don't want to give too much away!

  2. I started this book yesterday and it promises to be a good read. It is written by the author of the Kite Runner. He is such a good writer

  3. In my opinion this is a book about domestic violence. While we learn about the oppression of women in Afghanistan and the brutal regime of the Taliban, let us not forget that domestic violence is not exclusive to Afghan women but it is a worldwide problem

  4. This book deals with the difficult topic of the control and subjugation women suffer in Afghanistan. Because it is entrenched in the culture and sanctioned by religion and government hope for change seems limited at this time. Should women in more free societies bear any responsibility for assistance? If so what can be done?
