Pay It Forward
The Afternoon and Evening Book Clubs will gather for a potluck supper/book discussion on Tuesday, August 2. Supper begins at 6 pm with the discussion at 6:30.
Thanks to all who participated in our Pot Luck Dinner. The food was delicious, the company superb and of course a lively discussion followed all the fun.
Pay It Forward by Catherine Ryan Hyde is a work of fiction based on a true story. The author was stuck on deserted road at night with a broken down car. Two men stopped to help get her back on the road. When asked how she could pay them back their response was to pay it forward. This random act of kindness was the inspiration for this sweet book. Some in our group discussion shared stories of random acts of kindness that they had performed while others shared stories of random acts that were given to them. Please feel free to share any stories you may have with our group.
Pay It Forward -- The characters were well developed and carried the story along. Trevor, the young boy who first promoted the idea of paying forward kind acts was the heart of the book. He was an inspiration for the book's characters as well as for the readers. Everyone talked about a particular character or event in the story and all of us were enriched by those insights and stories. The choice of this book was a perfect complement to the Pot Luck dinner. We all enjoyed a great variety and abundance of main dishes and tasty desserts.I am looking forward to the next pot luck dinner and book discussion.
Thank you Susan and Jean for a wonderful evening of literature discussion and fellowship. I enjoyed this book very much. This type of book even though it is fiction reminds me that people are good for the most part and doing good deeds for others doesn't require money but a willing heart. Thank you again for a wonderful evening, Chris
Over the weekend I was responsible for driving my in-laws to New Hampshire for a family weekend. My dear sister-in-law asked how she could pay me back for my kindness and of course my response was to pay it forward. such a great feeling
